Baptisms and Dedications
‘Let the children come to me; do not try to stop them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you: whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.’
Luke 18:16-17
In many different cultures, there are rituals where the people gather to bless a child and celebrate his or her new life. In the Christian tradition, we celebrate the birth of a child through baptism. This has special significance for us because in doing so, we follow the words of Jesus to his disciples, when he called for the children, blessed them and said:
‘Let the children come to me; do not try to stop them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you: whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.’
